Description
This is a digital lesson that covers relations, functions, domain, range, function machines, infinite and finite situations. It is a Google Doc that allows students to type answers and it contains interactive Google Drawings where students will drag and drop and graph. Here's a detailed account of what is involved:
Part 1: The lesson begins with key vocabulary: relation, input, output, table, ordered pairs, mapping, graph and function. Students may want to add this vocabulary to their interactive notebook if this is relevant for your class. Students should understand the key vocabulary and how to determine if a relation is a function. This part can be done in about 20 minutes and the student should be able to work through the problems on their own.
Part 2: This part covers an intro to domain and range and students are asked to write a relation in multiple ways: mapping, table and graph. A function machine is introduced and students work through several problems. All of the concepts are put together in the last section of part 2. Students take a scenario, create a table given the input and an equation, then students are asked to graph the results. Part 2 will take about 30 minutes.
Part 3: This part of the lesson covers finite and infinite domains. Students write infinite domains using inequality form. There is a video to watch to explain how to write the domain and range properly. This part of the lesson will take about 30 minutes.
