Description
Teach centroid, orthocenter, circumcenter, and incenter with this complete points of concurrency geometry lesson. Students use guided discovery, coordinate geometry, constructions, practice, and a culminating project to understand how special segments in triangles connect to each point of concurrency.
This lesson helps students go beyond memorizing definitions. They draw medians, altitudes, perpendicular bisectors, and angle bisectors, then connect each one to its point of concurrency and key property.
Students also review and apply important coordinate geometry skills, including midpoint, distance, slope, perpendicular slopes, graphing, and systems of equations.
What’s Included
- Teacher guide and lesson plan
- Guided PowerPoint lesson slides
- Guided discovery lesson pages
- Student practice pages
- Summary chart
- Points of concurrency quiz
- Optional culminating project
- Project rubric
- Answer keys
Practice Pages Include
- Matching special segments to points of concurrency
- Vocabulary and key facts
- True/false review
- Identifying diagrams
- Centroid shortcut practice using coordinate averages
Project Included
The optional project gives students a chance to apply all four points of concurrency in one organized activity. Students graph a triangle, draw the required concurrent segments, locate the centroid, orthocenter, circumcenter, and incenter, write each point as an ordered pair, and briefly explain how each point was found.
This resource works well during a triangle unit, geometry constructions unit, or coordinate geometry review. Use the full lesson and project, or use the practice pages and quiz for a shorter treatment of points of concurrency.
